The bird has finally landed – 2 June 2011

2 June 2011

Awful weather, stayed in until late afternoon when I set off in the gale and rain with Simon for the corrall, we were overtaken on a slightly different route by three of our teammates on the two quad bikes who were also heading for the same destination. I decided to head back as it appeared they had it covered today, Simon went to check any ice free pools he could find. As I neared the settlement Gerrit hared past on the Quad Bike (ATV=All Terrain Vehicle). I continued back to the house and busied myself until 1800 hrs by cooking up some beans and mash on the stove and messing about with images.

1900hrs At Svetas house (who cooks us a supper each evening) Nige and Simon heard what all the excitement was about. The news was that a spoon-billed sandpiper had been seen by the other members of the team, the first of the season providing great hope for the days to come. I have images of this bird from Jochen. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
