Finally some time off! In the morning Liz, Katyr and myself (Roland), were taken by Andre our taxi driver to visit an old abandoned military town that at the height of the cold war had housed up to ten thousand people. However, after the end of the cold war and with the sudden decline of the Soviet Union, it had been abandoned as it stood in the early nineties. To walk round such a ghost town in the middle of the Tundra, inhabited now only by one old lady who had refused to leave, was quite an eerie experience, all the more enhanced by the damp and dreary conditions.
[Roland and Liz didn’t send any photos of this town, but if we can get some we’ll post them here]
