A worrying powercut 13 July 2011

1023am Nige got busy sorting the storage containers with Roland. There was a lot to do, lots of equipment to move to the rearing site. Liz and myself spent the morning with the chicks. We were still getting the little ones to feed, a combination of mosquitoes and the artificial food, lots of attention to detail, making sure each one was feeding. We had a powercut…Liz and I ran about trying to conserve heat in the brooders inventing ways of trapping the warm air, shutting windows, heat pads at the ready, car battery at the ready…..eventually it came back on, relief….and we undid all the heat saving work.

Nige and Roland were out loading the trailor with Micha and moving all the stuff to sheds nearby to begin constructing. I joined them late afternoon. We had other issues with chicks that  Liz dealt with every time proving herself in this difficult situation. Not that she has anything to prove, she has reared 200 Black Stilts in New Zealand, say no more!
