We were both on autopilot, carry on with the regime we had set up.
1930 hrs Jochen and Liza arrived, Jochen rings eleven of the chicks, he has probably ringed more SBS chicks in one go than anyone else ever in the world. We felt that our shaking hands and tired minds were not up to the task despite the huge novelty of ringing Spoon-billed Sandpipers. It was safer to have him do it as he has a huge amount of experience from Helgoland. All went well with the ringing. We had a final farewell drink with our German friend, always full of humour and a decent fella to be around. Sad to see him go.
