Headstarting is a collaborative effort between WWT, BirdsRussia and the RSPB, and occurs as part of the International Arctic Expedition mounted each year by BirdsRussia under the leadership of Dr. Evgeny Syroechkovskiy.

Sonadia Island now internationally recognised

Good news this week as Sonadia Island in Bangladesh has been designated as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, in recognition of its importance for non-breeding spoon-billed sandpipers.

As regular readers will know, the RSPB’s Rob Sheldon has been in Bangladesh with Sayam and Foysal of the¬†Bangladesh Spoon-billed Sandpiper Conservation Project. The third and final post from there is available to read here.

    It is great news and I sincerely feel that the Spoon-billed Sandpiper will increase in numbers in the near future.
