Headstarting is a collaborative effort between WWT, BirdsRussia and the RSPB, and occurs as part of the International Arctic Expedition mounted each year by BirdsRussia under the leadership of Dr. Evgeny Syroechkovskiy.

Ewan Weston

Ewan joined the team in 2015. In 2015 and 2016 he was part of the wader ringing team working with Nanjing Normal University catching spoon-billed sandpipers and other waders on the Jiangsu coast in China. Ewan works as an ecologist in Scotland on Golden Eagles and carried out his PhD on their juvenile dispersal behaviour. He has been a licensed bird ringer in the UK for 17 years, with interests predominantly in waders and terns.

Let’s start the week with a positive news! This Critically Endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper was rescued from the mudflats of Quanzhou, China by a local villager during heavy rain last week, the bird was wet & unable to fly (1/8)
