James has had a lifelong passion for birds and nature conservation and has worked for Defra and now for Natural England (the UK Government’s adviser for the natural environment in England) since 2000. He has managed Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme and currently leads on the design and delivery of Agri-environment schemes which help land managers and farmers to conserve and restore habitats for priority species, wild pollinators and farmland birds across England. Since the spring of 2014 he has led and taken part in SBS surveys in Jiangsu, China and Myanmar in February 2016 and currently sits on the SBS UK support group.
